Great purchase. Worked right out of the box and my husband didn’t even need the instructions! we use it for the backyard with an inflatable movie screen and the volume is great – didn’t even need to hook up extra speakers. Highly recommend, well worth the money.

I purchased this item for a client to be used in a kids’bunkroom, using it with the Epson Duet screen. Works great! Will also be ordering another one for a client for outdoor “movie night” Have to be careful as to placement in room though and consider distance to screen and where to place the projector. Client loves it. Wasn’t too pleased with Amazon’s delivery. I was supposed to have gotten free 2 day Prime shipping, but didn’t. I wound up paying for the 2 day shipping and it took longer than 2 days. Emailed Amazon about this, first response was not helpful. Emailed again with all information and there was no reply. A little disappointed in customer service.

5 Stars Portable, Easy to Use, Quality Picture and Color
I purchased this machine for the sole use of using it outside for “drive in” movie nights. So far I’ve used it for so much more. Yes, we have had one night without rain and were able to use it. We had a backyard of very happy teenagers watching scary movies until the wee hours of the morning. Then, we played Wii on it and just for giggles, I hooked it up to my laptop to see what viewing pleasure could be found on that. AMAZING. This is the EASIEST projector I have ever used. The sound quality is incredible. Picture is terrific and the FUN is absolutely priceless. I also purchased a blow up screen for outdoor use and a pull down screen for inside making it a very versatile item. My entire family is enjoying this projector. I’ve only had this item for a few weeks, but so far everything about it is perfect! For me, this is best item I have purchased in a very long time.

I liked the features on PT-ae3000u much more, so I will give this projector 4 stars. However, I am completely impressed with the image quality. It has the image that made me go ‘wow’. I cannot compare the image quality with other projectors and I cannot comment on how long the good image quality will last. I also cannot comment on bluray video quality because I have only played wii on this so far.

But I am impressed nonetheless !

5 Stars This projector provides excellent 1080p images
I bought this projector to replace a Sharp LCD with standard resolution. This projector is smaller and much quieter. It has an interesting set of adjustment wheels that allow you to adjust the image to the screen with ease. There is no need for a keystone adjustment as this projector corrects for it automatically. It gives you a variety of choices for video connections, but it performs extremely well using the HDMI connection. It has good brightness, even in a partially lit room and has rich colors and good blacks in a darkened room. It provides extremely sharp 1080p images; I am using it with an 8 feet wide screen at a distance of about 20 feet and it has room to throw a bigger image. If you are looking for an “affordable” full 1080p projector with good features, this is the one you should buy.

This projector is Awesome. It replaced a Sharp projector that I was in love with for 3 years, and this blows it out of the water… Dual HDMI inputs, razor sharp resolution, EXTREMELY bright if you want it to be means daytime viewing is no problem.

This thing is BIG and a bit of a beast, but that just makes me feel even more that I got what I paid for. Happy camper here.

4 Stars Well worth the price!
If you are looking to break into the 1080p projector territory, this is an excellent projector! I’ve had the chance to use my 6100 now for a few weeks, and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. Image quality is fantastic, and the colors are great too (when configured correctly). I’ve been using mine with the HDMI output of a Harman Kardon AVR-254 7×50W 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with HDMI 1.3a Repeater.

Pros:

* This sucker is BRIGHT. I am amazed at how nice it looks even with ambient light.

* Minimal screen door, as should be expected for a 1080p projector.

* The expanded color mode is beautiful, and works quite well.

* Contrast ratio is good, but don’t believe the 18000:1. It is still remarkably good for a <$2000 projector, and blows others that I've seen out of the water. But I have seen a lot of compression-artifact banding on Bluray sources -- you need a good video source to achieve good results.

Cons:

* I haven’t figured out why yet, but sometimes the projector loses focus. It could be vibrations from traffic nearby, kids playing upstairs, or the startup sequence, but the focus definitely needs to be tweaked from time to time. If you plan to mount your projector where it is not easily accessible, I would go so far as to suggest a different projector.

* If you have an HDMI source, it doesn’t seem to allow you to change the aspect ratio and zoom options. This gets kind of annoying when watching a letterboxed 4:3 source, because you can’t zoom in on the smaller image frame — you are stuck with the combined letterboxing and pillarboxing.

* The lens shift feature is excellent, but beware the limitations — you can’t shift fully in all directions. When shifting far to the left or right, you can’t also shift fully up or down. And if you are shifting near to the center point, it becomes difficult to tweak the shift because it wants to lock in on the center point.

* A number of the color mode seem useless and blown out in the out-of-the-box settings. I haven’t adjusted much to try out the other settings….

All in all, I’m incredibly happy, as I couldn’t spend more on a higher-end projector, and this gave me almost everything I wanted. For a five star home theater rating, you’ll probably need to spend at least $1000 more…

5 Stars I am amazed!
I absolutely love this projector. I first bought one that was advertised as 1080p “compatible” and boy was I let down. I didn’t realize that didn’t mean it would project that image, only that it would RECEIVE that strong of a signal and then project at it’s own native resolution. I sent that one back and bought the Sanyo, or as I like to call it “Old Beautiful” The image quality is SO GOOD. We have a 42inch 1080p LCD TV downstairs and the picture is just as good, only FOUR TIMES the size! For us men, Big TV is like Big Steak or Big Beer or Big whatever! Other reviewers mentioned not having a keystone correction but it has no need of one because it has this handy dial that will shift the image as far up or down as you might need. just lay the unit level and adjust the dials to put the image exactly where you want it. VERY easy. and the zoom lense lets you even DOUBLE the image size without ever moving the unit. I have it set up in my movie room with a projection distance of about 11 feet. With the zoom all the way out I get FULL USE out of my 120″ 16:9 screen. Let me say, 120″ of Hi-Def Master Chief is stinkin’ ridiculous! (That’s XBOX for anyone that doesn’t know.) I have a 1080p upconverting DVD player hooked up and movies are fantastic. I do plan to pick up a Blu-Ray player but don’t have it yet. My laptop is also plugged in so videos on my computer are displayed beautifully. My XBOX 360 and DVD player are both hooked up with HDMI cables. The only downside to this projector is that it doesn’t have an AUDIO output. That means that if I want to use HDMI, and that is the best signal transfer, I also need to run AUDIO to my stereo. Not a big deal if your devices have both HDMI output and a separate AUDIO output. The XBOX 360 has the regular plug and the HDMI plug right next to each other, which doesn’t leave enough room for both the regular cables, to run the audio to the stereo, and the HDMI to run to the projector. My solution for this was to remove the housing on the plug of the HDMI cable and carefully shove it in at the same time as the regular plug. Anyway, long story long, I made it work and I am so very pleased. I would HIGHLY recommend this product and would buy it again… but hopefully I won’t have to. Oh ya, and the remote and menus and controls are all very simple and make perfect sense. I’m sure even my 13 year old son could figure it out. I hope he doesn’t try. This is Dad’s toy!

This unit is awesome! you’ve got the built in dvd player,great picture,720p….Ive measured up to 128 in.diagonally….the built in sound system will really suprise you!…watching tv, internet or playing video games are all easy to connect as well…lets see convenience plays a factor…when you’re done put it in the closet or whereever…just have a white wall freed up for use! I cant come up with a negative aspect about this little wonder! Oh by the way watching football has never been more fun!!! Overall a great investment!!

5 Stars WOW! A great All -In-One Projector!
Every piece of electronics has specific things they are designed for and always has strong points and weaknesses that you must know while you are researching your purchase. I love researching what I purchase and I will spend countless hours pouring over reviews of items before plunking down my hard earned $$ on something. This purchase was no different and has proven to be one of my best choices to date.

The first thing I considered while looking over the hundreds and hundreds of projectors out there is what I’ll be using it for. Second was image quality.

I needed a projector that could replace a TV, use up the least amount of space, and include as many components that go into an entertainment system as possible. It needed to be close to being a complete entertainment system packed into an easily movable unit. I live 9 months out of the year overseas in an apartment and I need to be able to move my entertainment system easily if needed.

The Epson MovieMate 72 fit that description to a “T”! This unit has surpassed my expectations in build quality, image quality, sound quality, DVD quality, etc. The key word is quality here. It looks nice, no ugly white plastic to look at, only nice piano black. The upscaling DVD player works flawlessly and the DvD’s look great. The 5.1 speaker system is outstanding for being so small, they really do a good job of filling the room with sound.

The only item I purchased to compliment this projector system was a subwoofer. Since there was no way to implement a subwoofer into this system, for obvious reasons, and since I mainly watch action movies and shows, it was a must. With the added subwoofer this baby produces a very nice Theater Experience for sure.

Okay the good and the bad:

Pros:

1. Small for what you get. This looks like a big beautiful square box sitting on your table, bigger than most projectors. The size is actually very small considering what you have packed into this unit. No need for me to review all of this since you can simply read about it in the item description above.

2. Picture quality is excellent for this price range. You get what you pay for when it comes to image quality most of the time. For the $$ the Epson MovieMate 72 produces a top notch image, much better than many projector only units that cost much more.

3. The 5.1 Surround Sound speakers work very well for their size. They produce full, room filling, sound that are very acceptable as the sole source of sound for any movie. Adding a subwoofer is the only addition you may need, if you enjoy action movies.

4. DvD player upscales the source to 720p and produces a very nice picture. No need for an additional DvD player unless you need Blueray.

5. Very short throw. You only need to place this unit about 5′ from your wall to get about a 100″ screen size. Very, very nice!

Cons:

1. Because using this projector you will have to place it in front of you, you will need to run the wires on the floor from your outlet. I purchased a Cord Management Kit that simply runs your wires through molded plastic channels and keeps them neat and flat against the floor. Since the throw distance is so short, you fortunately don’t have to run wires very far and it is a trade-off I was willing to accept to get my 5.1 speakers in front of me and all part of the package.

That’s about it. The Epson MovieMate 72 has impressed EVERY person I’ve brought over to my apartment and I will own this baby for many years to come. This unit fit perfectly into what I needed and has outperformed my expectations. I would recommend this to anyone that is on a budget that wants to get a very nice projector for their home, as a very nice business meeting room projector where you need good sound (you can attach your computer to this very easily), or for people that live in an apartment and need the ability to move easily.

I bought this projector since I noticed trough research the problems with zooming on Epson. I love it the minute I crank it up!. I have combined it with a Bose V20 and use Bose 161 speakers as rear surround using the wireless device provided by Bose. I can’t be more happier with my Movie Room, Watched Monsters Inc Blu-ray with the kids and could’nt believe the crisp images it reproduces.

One of the best single purchase ever.

Totally recomend it.

Update 10-01-2009: If you are planing using this projector for rear projection I totally recomend using a Wireless HDMI transmitter (WHDMI), you going to get rid of those messy cables and a long run for HDMI cable wich if extended over 35 ft one may lose signal in some cases. One good option is Brite View’s Air HDMI. It worked fine for me.
