Have had this for about 6 months and really enjoyed it. When connected with HDMI, I had a greenish line on the right side of the screen that wasn’t present when the same device was connected to a tv, but it has a edge cut feature that fixed this up.

Very happy with the HD65 so far. I had other AV issues but once that was resolved, the picture and ease of use are great. I have mine set up as a ceiling mount rear projector. Easy to mount and focus. Picture looks great and I am excited to have my partons enjoy it as they watch the game.

5 Stars wonderful home theater product
This is my first projector, although I’d tried 2 others that I borrowed from church and work. This is also my first experience with HiDef. At first, I connected it with the yellow composite conection, and the picture needed to be toned down, reducing the brightness of the white that was blown out with the factory setting and increasing the sharpness. The picture was just “ok”, but of course huge. S Video gave similar results. Hooking it up to a laptop to watch a DVD though, was INCREDIBLE! Using the vga connection @ 1024×768 looked absolutely amazing. Then to top it all off, using a home made breakout cable following instructions online (http://myhometheater.homestead.com/vgacable.html)

with rca jacks, cat 5 cable and a 3$ radio shack part, I connected the FIOS set top box using component to vga, and was impressed even more with 1080i. I can’t go back to standard def now. Hi Def on the wall, 8′ across has incredible WOW effect. Painted wall is excellent, or a screen if you don’t have 8′ of clear wall space. The amount of detail revealed was unexpected. Absolutely amazing. Grass, clothing texture, jewelry details, dust and smudges on prop surfaces, were suddenly revealed. A lit room seems good, until all the lights are turned out, and then serious enjoyment ensues. Totally amazed. Others have been impressed with it’s contrast and brightness compared to older, more expensive projectors they’d seen before. I got it for just $499 on Amazon, and it had a rebate from viewsonic for a free bulb. Awesome deal. The only con I know of after a month, is it requires a relatively long “throw.” It’s practically a 2:3 ratio. If you want an 8′ screen, you have to be 12′ away. The zoom funtion merely allows for fine tuning of the size, to perfectly match the edge of your target once you get close to its dimensions. This has been the biggest consideration as I choose where to mount it based on my room’s size. Other projectors have had shorter throw distances. I accept this con in consideration of the price to performance ratio. I’ve never noticed the fan noise while viewing. Shut down time is fast. My remote works very responsively. My intended use was for family movie nights, so I don’t miss a built in speaker, as it would be inferior anyway. As for presentation quality, I can easily read web pages, emails, and documents. Pdf’s are illegible if the screen’s set to “read one page at a time.” I’m not sure yet how much bigger I can go beyond 8′ and still get a good picture, since I don’t have a big enough surface to project against yet.

Update: Dec. 26th still going strong. I notice some delay in detecting my laptop’s VGA input (actually XGA I think, but using “VGA” cable). Could just as well be my laptop’s fault. Actively clicking on items (like desktop items, web pages) seems to hasten detection vs. just waiting “patiently.” I think it’s always been this way, I’ve just become more familiar with what I’m supposed to do and what it’s supposed to do. Delay can be up to 90 secs. worst case. Faster detection with video source. I’ve used it every day for the past 2 weeks, and it’s still wonderful.

Anything with dark scenes, like some PC gaming or most movies requires at least dimmed lights. Page / bright presentation viewing (like business use or web surfing) can easily be done with full ambient light, no problem.

5 Stars Good economy projector
It works as advertised. Be aware of the following, though:

1. The only leveling adjustment is on the front single leg. If you have level it in the back to make it align with a screen, you will need paper shims.

2. The only leveling adjustment is on the front single leg, and the front leg is only adjustable in increments. I had to use a paper shim on the front leg to get fine adjustments.

3. It is bright, but the colors at default settings are not particularly well balanced – white is very white, but yellow is kind of dark, not clean and bright.

Having said all this, I recommend this projector as a good economy projector. I purchased this for use at church, and it works for that purpose. Not sure how it would do on video feeds. I would purchase it again, knowing what I know. As long as someone does not bump the projector or the platform it is on, you don’t need to set the level every day.

5 Stars Just a great projector
First off, this projector is a great price. You get 1024×768 for the ballpark of $600, and ViewSonic frequently runs “free spare bulb” rebate offers, which I sent in and recieved in a timely manner. The bulbs supposedly last 3500 hours, which is on the high end for the projector market. They supposedly last 4000 hours in economy mode. At 16 hours per weekend you could get 5 years out of a bulb.

The projector has a fixed throw ratio, so if you want a huge screen you need a long room. Projecting to the ceiling only yields a ~40″ diagonal image, or so (and of course depends on your ceiling height) but longways in a 22′ livingroom yields a 123″ diagonal image! Keystone correction is nice, and lets you mount the projector up high so the beam can be above your head when sitting on the couch, and still give a rectangular picture. (though they implement the keystone within the thrown image, so the more keystone effect you use the more diagonal image size you lose)

The menus are well done, and there are full color adjustment options, to the point where I was able to project on a gray/green wall and not feel the need to buy a screen for it. (though I might still do that eventually)

The bulb can’t really compete with direct sunlight, though with the shades down the image is perfect (in normal bulb mode). It does ok vs. normal indoor lighting though you lose a bit of color saturation (i.e. if you were projecting in a lit hallway where you didn’t have control over the lights). So in other words, if you are making a presentation its fine in lit areas, but if you were watching a movie you definitely want the lights out. At nighttime economy mode provides plenty of brightness.

I’m frnakly kinda shocked there aren’t any reviews for this PJ, but after weeks of research I decided to purchase one, largely based on reviews over at projector reviews dot com. 1080p, outstanding brightness for its class, and a picture as good as projectors 2-3 times the price, it’s a winner. There are drawbacks like the mediocre blacks, and the goofy proprietary plug (with included adapter) and the crazy offset, but these are things I was willing to overlook. Infocus PJ’s tend to be kinda pricey for their specs, but not this one!

Coming from a 720p projector I expected an improvement. I got what I expected and more!

Great picture from this projector. Can’t complain about black levels because it’s pretty good.

Easy to adjust for more or less black level with the iris. I have this mounted 18 feet from the screen and have a nice big 120 inch diagonal picture with great resolution, nice and bright.

Face it, at this price point you will have to look very hard to find something anywhere near this good.

Mine came with the DVI to HDMI adapter and a 6 ft. HDMI cable. Bonus!

I’m sending a signal from and Oppo Blu-ray player, an A35 HD-DVD player, a PS3 and a Wii. Works great with my A/V equipment.

4 Stars 8 months after, and no one can beat this unit yet
My first Home Theater projector was an InFocus IN72, which I loved, but was only 480p. So I sold it and in August 2008 I bought the Mitsubishi HC1500, which is 720p (native resolution of 1280×720). What can I say? Some of my friends keep asking me “when are you going to show that movie?”… Some of them were more than happy to watch the image produced by my old projector, and simply LOVE the image produced by the Mitsu.

Everything else has already been said. Just enjoy it.

8 months have passed and I have yet to find another affordable unit that is this good. At $792 including taxes and shipping to Brooklyn, this was a unique opportunity.

Have owned this now for about 2.5 years and love it…

The only issue is (as other reviewers have already alluded to) that if you need to floor/shelf mount it, you will need to at a very low height from the ground. Have placed mine at about 6-10 inches from the ground.. Anyone sitting near the projector is going to feel some heat.. Not much noise. Another issue with this product is that when you remove the shutter over the lens, your focus needs to be adjusted all over again.. Pretty simple to do so, but dont see why Mitsubishi didnt think of this..

As regards quality of image – its great, the blacks could have been darker, but am very happy with it. Brightness is quite good, and degradation precluding viewing occurs only with a lot of ambient light.

I bought this around Thanksgiving

before ..(BCS and NFL) finals, primarily for ME (myself)!

(since no one else thought we should spend that much $$$’s for a big screen projector) SOOOooo, I made it a Christmas gift for US (all)!

I have personally used this (during the last 2 years ) about 60 ( YES!! … sixty) TOTAL hours; and, have walked in the room and seen everyone ELSE using it, CONSTANTLY.

the 2000 hour bulb warning has been indicating for some time now.

(while we (THEY) are approaching 3000 hours by NOW !)

Bulb still going !!! ($90 – $145 replacement cost . . . SOMEDAY!)

I put this with a reasonable sound system and it has…. BEEN WORTH IT!

The family loves it. I am glad.

Providing this (VALUE); QUALITY at this price.

I will BUY this brand again (1080i ) … when I save up some $$$$ and find a good reason to replace OR give this one away.

1 Star Don’t buy this
You get what you pay for, and sometimes not even that!! I was replacing my Atdec flush mount, because I needed to lower the projector about 12 inches, and man is there a difference in engineering! First off the lateral twist adjustment is worthless to unusable. There are 2 inaccessible screws to make this adjustment or you can rotate the ceiling mount plate about 15 degrees. The Ceiling mount is worthless for mounting in a single 2×8 ceiling stud because they designed it with 4 holes that are stupidly 3 inches apart. This wouldn’t even work for a double stud! I mounted mine diagonal using only 2 of the holes. There are 4 machine screws to hold the extension to the ceiling plate and four more to hold the projector mount to the extension but only ONE LOUSY SCREW for a friction plate that keeps the whole thing from crashing down!!!! In fact while I was adjusting everything (without the projector thank God), a tightened a screw that changed the shape of the extension and the friction set screw popped loose and the whole assembly hit the floor leaving me wondering how I was going to make sure that didn’t happen with my projector. I decided to drill a hole through the two parts of the extension and put a screw through it to prevent the two parts from pulling apart. – Believe it or not there is more but you get the idea.

I bought this mount to be used in a church, Also had a projector that needed a special mount for very close 4 hole mount. This mount was just what the Dr. ordered. Mounts to normal studs just fine, if you turn it the right way… Fixing to order a second one for a rear mount projector to our church.

I bought this mount after reading the reviews and was a little edgy about it because of the “one star” review i read that said it might just drop from the ceiling…Well before i hung my projector from it I ACTUALLY GRABBED ONTO IT AND HUNG WITH THE FULL 140LBS OF MY BODY WEIGHT AND IT SLIPPED ABOUT 1/4″ AND THEN CAUGHT. I noticed that if you turn the sliding height adjustment bar upside down it will slip off SO MAKE SURE YOU PUT THAT BAR ON THE RIGHT WAY (try it both ways, the right one will be obvious) If you install it correctly you REALLY CANT BEAT THIS FOR THE MONEY. It is a must that you be somewhat mechanically inclined..if your unsure, have a friend on hand for second opinions and to help you hold everything steady. Once its up its easy to make adjustments and it looks sweet!
