I liked the features on PT-ae3000u much more, so I will give this projector 4 stars. However, I am completely impressed with the image quality. It has the image that made me go ‘wow’. I cannot compare the image quality with other projectors and I cannot comment on how long the good image quality will last. I also cannot comment on bluray video quality because I have only played wii on this so far.

But I am impressed nonetheless !

5 Stars This projector provides excellent 1080p images
I bought this projector to replace a Sharp LCD with standard resolution. This projector is smaller and much quieter. It has an interesting set of adjustment wheels that allow you to adjust the image to the screen with ease. There is no need for a keystone adjustment as this projector corrects for it automatically. It gives you a variety of choices for video connections, but it performs extremely well using the HDMI connection. It has good brightness, even in a partially lit room and has rich colors and good blacks in a darkened room. It provides extremely sharp 1080p images; I am using it with an 8 feet wide screen at a distance of about 20 feet and it has room to throw a bigger image. If you are looking for an “affordable” full 1080p projector with good features, this is the one you should buy.

This projector is Awesome. It replaced a Sharp projector that I was in love with for 3 years, and this blows it out of the water… Dual HDMI inputs, razor sharp resolution, EXTREMELY bright if you want it to be means daytime viewing is no problem.

This thing is BIG and a bit of a beast, but that just makes me feel even more that I got what I paid for. Happy camper here.

If you are looking to break into the 1080p projector territory, this is an excellent projector! I’ve had the chance to use my 6100 now for a few weeks, and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. Image quality is fantastic, and the colors are great too (when configured correctly). I’ve been using mine with the HDMI output of a Harman Kardon AVR-254 7×50W 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with HDMI 1.3a Repeater.

Pros:

* This sucker is BRIGHT. I am amazed at how nice it looks even with ambient light.

* Minimal screen door, as should be expected for a 1080p projector.

* The expanded color mode is beautiful, and works quite well.

* Contrast ratio is good, but don’t believe the 18000:1. It is still remarkably good for a <$2000 projector, and blows others that I've seen out of the water. But I have seen a lot of compression-artifact banding on Bluray sources -- you need a good video source to achieve good results.

Cons:

* I haven’t figured out why yet, but sometimes the projector loses focus. It could be vibrations from traffic nearby, kids playing upstairs, or the startup sequence, but the focus definitely needs to be tweaked from time to time. If you plan to mount your projector where it is not easily accessible, I would go so far as to suggest a different projector.

* If you have an HDMI source, it doesn’t seem to allow you to change the aspect ratio and zoom options. This gets kind of annoying when watching a letterboxed 4:3 source, because you can’t zoom in on the smaller image frame — you are stuck with the combined letterboxing and pillarboxing.

* The lens shift feature is excellent, but beware the limitations — you can’t shift fully in all directions. When shifting far to the left or right, you can’t also shift fully up or down. And if you are shifting near to the center point, it becomes difficult to tweak the shift because it wants to lock in on the center point.

* A number of the color mode seem useless and blown out in the out-of-the-box settings. I haven’t adjusted much to try out the other settings….

All in all, I’m incredibly happy, as I couldn’t spend more on a higher-end projector, and this gave me almost everything I wanted. For a five star home theater rating, you’ll probably need to spend at least $1000 more…

This projector is amazing. The picture quality is wonderful, the color is vivid and has just a super sharp image. I have it mounted on the ceiling in a light controled room on a 105″ 16/9 screen w/1.0 grain. It is beautiful. This epson is a great bang for the buck.

We could hardly be more pleased with this projector. My wife thought it was going to be junk, and I bought it specifically from Amazon so I wouldn’t have any trouble if we decided to return it. That’s not going to happen. It came in before the screen, so we tried it just on the wall and were blown away even in those conditions. Wife loves it. Kids love it. (Our previous TV is a 50″ Sony rear projection model.) We have a light-controlled environment and are using an Elite 106″ screen with a 1.0 gain. Though I haven’t “calibrated” it yet, I did borrow some recommended settings I found in a review, and the picture is noticeably improved. It has several picture presets built in, which is nice, and also the ability to store multiple custom settings for each input. BTW, there’s quite a few picture adjustment options to fiddle around with in case, like me, you’re the type who can never leave well enough alone. Oh sure, there are things to nitpick. The power switch is located in an odd spot that’s a little bit difficult to get to. Aspect ration isn’t quite as flexible as it was with the Sony. Skin tones are a tad on the green side, and with the higher output settings, the fan is noticeable. I wouldn’t call it distracting, but it is noticeable, as is the iris shutter. And, finally, there are some noticeable motion artifacts with fast moving images. I almost hate to list all that because it makes it sound, contrary to my opening statement, like we should easily find ourselves more pleased. However, the good far outweighs the bad (minor nuisances, really), and the price is right. I do try very hard to get the best value for my dollar, and the Epsom gets high marks there. Would I like to have a 1080p model? Sure. When I win the lottery, no doubt I’ll get one. In the mean time, however, my family is going to have a ball on “movie night.”

5 Stars Great projector at a good price.
I have about a month of experience with the Epson 6100, and I’m thrilled. It replaces an Infocus 4805 that is about five years old. The 4805 has 2800 hours on the lamp, and the light tunnel is faulty causing a yellow smear down the left side of the screen. I had a few bucks set aside for a new projector, and between the great reviews I read, the long lamp life, and the $100 and spare lamp rebate, I pulled the trigger.

I opted for free shipping, and thank you Amazon, I got delivery in three days. The first impression was how huge this thing is. It’s twice the size of the 4805. In fact, it’s about as big as my Pioneer Elite receiver. It didn’t fit in the tight little space next to the couch the old projector occupied. I knew I’d need a ceiling mount, but for the time being I jury rigged a platform. My only high resolution source is a Fios HD box. The HD image looked good through the 480P Infocus, but I was blown away by the bright, sharp, colorful image the 6100 produced right out of the box. I’m using analog component cables for now. Sports like baseball, football and the U.S. Open tennis are spectacular. Movies on standard definition DVDs are exceptional. I have a Marantz DV 6400 multi-player which is a very nice machine. I can’t wait to see what Blu-ray looks like through the 6100.

I got the Vantage Point ceiling mount which makes a big difference. The mount has a six inch extension that works well on my sloped Cape Cod ceiling. It’s a solidly built mount the supports this big guy very well. The 6100 has great placement flexibility with it’s up and down, and right to left lens shift. The image fills my 72″ wide screen from about ten feet, and can go much bigger. I changed the settings to those recommended by one of the reviews I read, which cut down the brightness a bit, and warmed the colors. This is a very impressive machine for a reasonable price. With the spare lamp, I hope to have it well into my golden years. If I could give it ten stars I would.

4 Stars Great Bulb, Replacement Plan was a Scam
The bulb works great and comes with easy to use instructions and even a small screwdriver if one if not available. One caution I’d have is to wait a few hours after turning your projector off before changing the lamp (Yes, HOURS). Inside is very hot, and touching the lamp before it is cool could burn.

Although I liked the lamp, the company that provides replacement plans on these products gave me the run-around on the lamp I bought last October. I bought a one year replacement plan and thought (wrongly) that my lamp went out last month. When I asked about a replacement, they told me that my plan was void because they only cover permanent hardware. I checked the Amazon page and the same company was still offering replacement plans on that product 11 months later, meaning they were still selling replacement plans that they claimed not to honor. Makes me wonder how many people in those 11 months bought the plan and didnt have it honored when their products failed.

On a side note, my lamp had not actually failed. It still works fine, and I have put in over 2,500 hours on it (another reason not to buy the replacement plan). I use it for cable, DVD and to play my Wii.
